When a commercial sensor simply
cannot be found to meet a requirement,
either in performance or at the right price, it is sometimes possible
to customise a device to fit the bill. Using the latest production
techniques and more modern electronics existing sensor designs can
often be improved in both these areas, and sometimes even reduced in
size as an added benefit.
When even this is not possible a bespoke sensor design is
worth
considering, and can be just as cost effective depending on the
technology. A fresh design has the advantage of a sensing performance
tuned to the task in hand, as well as packaging tailored to suit the
target application.
